WE GOT OUR DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES GRANT!!!!
They gave out 62 grants. And we got one! One of two in MA. We need a full time staff person, and will have to do an open hiring before December. (See Community Events and Announcements for job posting!)
Guest Speaker: Healthwise Foundation
Healthwise Foundation is a medical marijuana treatment center, which is a DPH designation indicating one cultivation facility with 3 retail satellites. They’re 18 months into a 2 year application process with the state, involving business plans, background checks, financial stress tests.
Currently in Part 3 of application: forging good relationships with the towns they’re to be hosted in. Offers resources from their personnel, and looks for letters of non-objection from town administrators.
Questions: does Ballot Question 4 (to legalize recreational marijuana) change anything about your plans? No, we are medical only.
Where would delivery be available? Armored trucks would be used for transport. Looking to deliver anywhere within the counties where they’re based – Hampshire, Hampden and Worcester.
The process to get medical marijuana in MA is arduous and expensive.
Why haven’t pharmaceutical companies been creating marijuana-based products? Too difficult to source.
Do you know that prescribers are willing to prescribe MM? They haven’t met with any providers because they’re not legally allowed to have a relationship with any providers.
Where are you in your process with the town of Ware? Still talking to town stakeholders.
Provider training for prescription management. Screening Brief Intervention Referral to Treatment followup training in Oct/Nov. Lockbox postcards about safe storage on their way. Oct 22 is National Prescription Takeback Day. Survey for 18-24 year olds is going out now.
Non-Lethal overdose database; original plan was collecting data from hospitals, fire, police, etc. Now going to be able to request quarterly data from the Office of Emergency Management, which will get data from people who did call 911 during an overdose event. Database should be online by the end of this year.
Here are quick overviews of the meetings; for full minutes and agendas, see the "Minutes" tab.
