JAC Patrissi – reports on upcoming DV Task Force initiatives and connection between domestic violence and substance use
About 60% of DV cases involve drug use. Women survivors of DV are 5x more likely to be hurt if they have substance use disorder.
DV is about patterns of behavior around power and control.
Abusive values vs non-abusive (see images)
Differences and similarities between Substance Use Disorder and Intimate Partner Violence (see image)
General misconception: people who engage in abusive patterns (as the abuser) do not have low self-esteem; they have an inflated sense of self.
Overlap: in both SUD and DV, abusers will experience shame that’s both internalized and externalized.
To be continued at next month’s meeting.
Plan a longer training that’s open to the public.

Ann Darling, Community Action
Community Action needs to run focus groups in Ware and Belchertown; CA served 2600 people in these towns last year between head start, community resources and advocacy, fuel assistance and youth programs.
Need to hear from different community leaders about what problems may be coming and how CA can help.
Can use QHCC meeting next month as a focus group.
Here are quick overviews of the meetings; for full minutes and agendas, see the "Meetings" and "Task Force" tabs.
